NOTES
Lora loves weddings, even though her marriage is on the rocks and she suspects that her husband Jorge has fallen in love with Yasmina. Yasmina is in a hurry to get married to Javi, a policeman who prefers to take his time. Alfredo is against the marriage, but would be ready to get married for friendship...or for money-. A FIANCE FOR YASMINA is a romantic comedy which contains a moral tale, a summer fable about marriages of convenience, couples living together and social commitment. Love tangles, marriage in exchange for personal gain, Spanish courses for foreigners, threats of divorce, football, couscous and Iberian ham, are some of the ingredients of a story which speaks about different people living side by side and of how social conventions and prejudice condition personal relationships.

| Profile | In 1994 she was received a scholarship to study in the International School of Cinema and Television of San Antonio de los Banos, Cuba, where she graduated in the specialty of scriptwriting and direction in 1996. After her return to Spain, she finished her degree in Image Sciences in the Complutense University of Madrid and developed her professional career, writing and directing short films and documentaries. La ciguena, for which she received the Extremadura a la Creacion Award in 2002, La Batalla de Badajoz (the Consejo Asesor of RTVE in Extremadura award, 2005), Despues de la Batalla (2007) and the film A fiance for Yasmina. | |
| Message | The esthetic proposal was based in a conception of realism more as a search for truth in emotion and dramatic action, than as a mere effort of naturalistic representation. Therefore, in the narrative as well as in the visual aspects, we deliberately kept away from the artificial and formal, and we pursued spontaneity and sensuality. This mix is present in the background and in the style. In our organization of the film we have looked for a balance between control and spontaneity, with fluid camera angles. Some of the most important scenes in the film take place, precisely, in corridors, in meeting places, scenes of transition. And there Yasmina will start to discover that perhaps her destiny is not the thing which she has fought so hard for and that liberty, which seemed so unreachable, can be found in the commitment to things close to her. | |
