BABY BABY BABY!
NOTES
The steady decline in the birth rate is a big concern in Japan. A heroine of this story decides to make a career without children. However she finds out that she is pregnant! She finally makes her decision to have a first delivery, which means she is going to have a long and “painful” gestation period. This is the “first” entertainment film on delivery in Japan and the expectant mothers in the story have a struggle with various problems. In order to make this film, the film producer reassembled the actresses and the film crew of popular TV drama “Nurse no oshigoto” (from 1996 to 2002), which comically describes how the nurses work at a hospital. It is remarkable that Arisa Mizuki, a comedy actress, plays a career woman and Shosuke Tanihara, a popular actor, plays an indecisive handsome man. This “funny and touching” story will give us a solution to decline in the birth rate in Japan.

| Profile | Born in Saitama in 1960. Became an assistant director at NIKKATSU after graduating from Meiji University as a Bachelor of Commerce. Exercised his various skills as a scriptwriter, a director, and a producer of TV dramas after being a freelance. He is one of the rare directors in Japan that create different types of works such as comedy, human, and suspense drama. Directed “Nurse no oshigoto THE MOVIE” (in 2002), “KEEP ON ROCKIN’” (in 2003), and “DEAR FRIENDS” (in 2007). | |
| Message | “Childbirth” is an instinctive behavior that is left primitive in any civilized society. It is something very important that men can never do even if there is no gender gap in our society. A human being gives birth to a baby. Only thing men can do during this great instinctive behavior is to cheer up women. Just like the men in the films, what I did during the shooting was only to cheer up the actresses, saying, “Hold on, hold on.” Consequently the actresses acted out the childbirth scene with considerable skill. This film offers a childbirth experience to all the audience. | |
