DROP
Hiroshi (played by Hiroki Narimiya) wants to be like a juvenile delinquent he saw in a comic and is transferred from a private boys’ junior high school to a public school. Shortly after his transfer, his impudent attitude annoys the juvenile delinquents there and they told him to come to the river location. The one waiting for Hiroshi there is a charismatic leader Tatsuya (played by Hiro Mizushima), who is vicious and has a handsome face. Hiroshi unexpectedly has no choice but to fight with Tatsuya one-on-one. Regardless of Hiroshi’s daring action, he is easily beaten up by Tatsuya. However Hiroshi’s guts and glibness enable him to be a member of the juvenile delinquents on the first day at his new school. This film is directed by Hiroshi Shinagawa from a comedy duo “Shinagawa-Shoji” and based on his own novel and comic book titled “Drop”. The story describes his adolescence when he noticeably strayed from the right path. Hiroki Narimiya and Hiro Mizushima, who are young actors of the first rank in their popularity and acting skill, act the part of a juvenile delinquent for the first time. In addition, Yuika Motokariya, Yusuke Kamiji, Noriko Nakagoshi, and many Yoshimoto comedians also appear in this film in order to maintain an exuberant mood.

Profile | Born in Tokyo in 1972. Finished Tokyo Yoshimoto Sogo Geino Gakuin (or Tokyo NSC) as its first graduate. Formed a comedy duo “Shinagawa-Shoji” with Tomoharu Shoji, his classmate, in 1995, when he wrote a script for their comedy and took the part of boke (a funny man). Published his first autobiographic novel “Drop” in 2006. “Drop” appeared serially in a boy’s magazine in 2007. Eventually its novel and its comic book hit the best-seller list with the gross circulation of 2.5 million. This is Shinagawa’s first feature film directed by himself. | |
Message | The overriding theme for this film was how I would be able to make “Drop” hold further attraction that could be described only in a film, and I directed it with the purpose of providing the most pleasant film entertainment that contains something missing in my novel. I hope you are deeply absorbed in this film without recognizing “this is the film directed by Shinagawa.” |
