Itsuji Itao's King of the Escape
NOTES
In the early Showa era ... There was a man who repeated prison breakings no matter how it was driven into the tough going. His name was Masayuki Suzuki. Any cuffs were completely useless for holding him. Using his rare kind of physical strength and unique ideas, all of his prison breakings were made to succeed. So, people started to call him “DATSUGOKU OH (=Escape King)”, and he became considered as a hero.However, he always got arrested within a matter of hours after his escapes although he used his great talent in prison breakings.What was his true purpose of prison breakings?
This is the first feature film directed by Itsuji Itao, who has recently been around as an actor and a writer. He also plays the role of Masayuki Suzuki, and Jun Kunimura plays the role of an officer of the Department of Justice. Moreover Koji Ishizaka and Kanji Tsuda, who are veteran actors, as well as Bonchi Osamu, All Kyojin, and Yuichi Kimura support the main characters.

| Profile | Born in Osaka in 1963. Formed a comedy duo “130R” with Honkon. Appeared mainly on TV variety shows that made him well-known as a top performer of “Ogiri”, and is now around as an actor in TV dramas, in films, on stages as well as a writer. His acting makes an outstanding impression on the audience. Appeared in the films; “Kuchu-teien”, “Chikyuno-miryoku”, and “Tokyo Tower ~okan to boku to tokidoki oton”. | |
| Message | I’m so glad to have an opportunity to direct a feature film for the first time and have it screened as a part of this film festival. As few of us enjoy such opportunities, it is lucky enough for an amateur in directing a film like me to face a pleasant experience. I made this film in order to describe something interesting to me as well as something I wanted to film. So this film reflects my mind a hundred percent. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all the staff that helped me during the shooting. | |
